The final weeks

In the final few days of this semester, I have become more in touch with myself. I have been learning, slowly but surely, that I can in fact handle a boatload of work. I think the most important thing I learned about myself I that I am capable of anything and that I am proud to be doing what I am. I think it's important for someone my age to find themselves before they move on with their lives.

My feelings on what is going on in Ferguson are simple: Darren Wilson needs to go to jail. I feel like he is getting away with murder. It also feels like the Grand Jury had a secret trial about the case and made the decision that he is not guilty. I'm also SO MAD that people on campus aren't protesting it. I wonder if they don't want to make waves or they just don't know. This is a really important event and will go down in History Books.
I believe the protests are necessary but not rioting. Violence is not the answer here, just as Mike Brown's parents said, and the president said. There is a bigger problem here that is only solved by peaceful conversations and peaceful protests. There is absolutely no reason for the violence that has been going on.
I LOVED what was going on during the Black Friday shopping. Apparently, sales were down 7%, which I think is great. I try to shop small anyway because I think promoting small businesses are really important.
I really don't want to get too into it because I will just get really mad.

Working Poor

So I keep wondering why these people don't seem to want to help their situations. I wonder why they don't use the money they make for their bills and stuff like that. I didn't mention it before but I really like the chapter on the exploitation of labor (Ch. 3). I think it is really important to know about these situations, especially since they are happening in the United States. The United States is using immigrants for their cheap labor and not giving them enough money. This is ridiculous because they are coming to the US for a better opportunity yet we are treating them like they are back home.

I wish I could help all of the people I am reading about in the book. However, I don't think most of them want to be helped.

The Working Poor- Chs. 1-3

I found this reading incredibly interesting. I have always known that people work in terrible jobs and don't make nearly enough money, however, I have never truly thought about it until now. I know that sounds terrible and rather self centered but I think that is the way a lot of middle class citizens think. We all know it's there but we would rather not think about it because it is sad to us.
To be honest, I think this completely defies the stereotype of the "American Dream" because it is somewhat unattainable in their situation, especially if the families continue spending there money frivolously as mentioned in Ch. 1.

The book that my group was assigned was The Working Poor. I think that this book is going to be a good and interesting read. I am not used to reading non-fiction books, so it will be a nice change. I think that it is important to read books like this because I think it is the best way to stay informed about things happening all around the world.
